Can the following VBScript be converted into JavaScript?

I'm in the process of converting some VBScript to JavaScript, but I'm unsure if it's feasible due to its reliance on Microsoft apps and code. I am seeking assistance with either: a) converting the code to JavaScript successfully, or b) determining that the conversion is not currently feasible.

The VBScript statements that I find to be too specific to Microsoft are:

set oExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
set oBook = oExcel.Workbooks.Add
oBook.HTMLProject.HTMLProjectItems("Sheet1").Text = sHTML
oBook.HTMLProject.RefreshDocument()
oExcel.Visible = True
oExcel.UserControl = True

Has anyone managed to integrate JavaScript and Excel effectively to find a viable solution?

Answer №1

Yes, it can be done like this:

 var excelApp = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application")
 var workbook = excelApp.Workbooks.Add()

 //The following line may not be compatible with Excel 2007
 // workbook.HTMLProject.HTMLProjectItems["Sheet1"].Text = sHtml

 var sheet = workbook.Sheets("Sheet1")
 sheet.Range("A2").Value = "Hello, Universe"
 excelApp.Visible = true
 excelApp.UserControl = true

Answer №2

If you're looking to accomplish this task, you'll need to utilize JScript instead of JavaScript. Check out this resource for detailed instructions. Keep in mind that this method may be limited to Internet Explorer users.
