Attempting to intercept the typeof
operator is not feasible. The type of the proxy object will always mirror that of the proxy target.
This behavior is detailed in the specifications found here: http://www.ecma-international.org/ecma-262/7.0/#sec-typeof-operator-runtime-semantics-evaluation, with the crucial points summarized in the following table:
A proxy is considered an object, and whether or not it implements [[Call]]
hinges on the type of target
specified during the creation of the proxy. This distinction can be observed in Step 7 of http://www.ecma-international.org/ecma-262/7.0/#sec-proxycreate. Therefore, if a function is passed as the target (as all functions naturally implement [[Call]]
), the proxy will also be recognized as a function, causing typeof
to return "function".
