Can a website accurately identify my operating system and browser version even if my browser settings have been altered?

When using selenium to browse a website, I have modified the useragent, platform, and oscpu properties of the navigator object in my Firefox browser. Will the website be able to detect my actual operating system and browser version?

Answer №1

Utilizing User Agent sniffing in JavaScript allows you to identify your browser and platform, although this method may not always provide accurate information. It is now recommended to use feature detection techniques instead.

So, to answer your question, yes, you can use JavaScript on your website to determine the OS and browser version. For feature detection, tools like Modernizr can be helpful.
