AngularJS: Error message stating that '$scope is undefined'

Encountering '$scope is not defined' console errors in this AngularJS controller code:

angular.module('articles').controller('ArticlesController', ['$scope', '$routeParams', '$location', 'Authentication', 'Articles',
        function($scope, $routeParams, $location, Authentication, Articles){
            $scope.authentication = Authentication;
        }
    ]);

$scope.create = function() { // ERROR OCCURS ON THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE OF $SCOPE
    var article = new Articles({
        title: this.title,
        content: this.content
    });

    article.$save(function(response) {
        $location.path('articles/' + response._id);
    }, function(errorResponse) {
        $scope.error = errorResponse.data.message;
    });
};

To troubleshoot the $scope definition issue in my AngularJS MVC files, where should I focus on?

Answer №1

Just a heads up for those who find themselves here via Google search: If you happen to overlook adding quotation marks around $scope while annotating the function for minification, you'll encounter this error.

Error Alert

app.controller('myCtrl', [$scope, function($scope) {
  ...
}]);

Solution for Angular Enthusiasts

app.controller('myCtrl', ['$scope', function($scope) {
  ...
}]);

Answer №2

Insert this code snippet into the controller:

angular.module('posts').controller('PostsController', ['$scope', '$routeParams', '$location', 'Auth', 'PostService',
        function($scope, $routeParams, $location, Auth, PostService){
            $scope.authUser = Auth;

$scope.createPost = function() { // GETS AN ERROR WITH THIS $SCOPE
    var post = new PostService({
        title: this.title,
        content: this.body
    });

    post.$save(function(response) {
        $location.path('posts/' + response._id);
    }, function(errorResponse) {
        $scope.errorMsg = errorResponse.data.message;
    });
};
        }
    ]);

Answer №3

Make sure to place your $scope.create function within the controller itself, not outside of it!

$scope is specifically defined within controllers and each controller has its own instance of $scope. Placing $scope outside of a controller will not work as expected.

Answer №4

Make sure to verify the scope variable declaration after defining the controller. For example:

    var app = angular.module('myApp','');
     app.controller('customersCtrl', function($scope, $http) {
     //declare scope variable here.

});

Verify the defined scope of the controller in the view page.

For instance:

<div ng-controller="mycontroller">
//ensure that scope variables are utilized within these blocks

<div>
