AngularJS display element within viewport

My div is extremely wide and contains many elements. I need a way to bring specific elements into view when a button is clicked. Is there an alternative to $anchorscroll that can achieve this?

Looking for a solution for horizontally scrolling to a particular element

Answer №1

Here is the solution:

var application = angular.module("sa", []);

application.controller("FooController", function($scope) {

  $scope.scrollHorizontal = function() {
    var parentElement = document.querySelector("#parentElement");
    var focusElement = document.querySelector("#focusElement");

    var parentLeftPosition = parentElement.getBoundingClientRect().left;
    var focusElementLeftPosition = focusElement.getBoundingClientRect().left;

    parentElement.scrollLeft = focusElementLeftPosition - parentLeftPosition;
  };
});
#parentElement {
  width: 300px;
  background: #ccc;
  overflow: auto;
}
#childElement {
  width: 1200px
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.2.23/angular.min.js"></script>

<div ng-app="sa" ng-controller="FooController">
  <div id="parentElement">
    <div id="childElement">
      Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Cras eget turpis sed velit vehicula varius. Nulla facilisi. Morbi euismod lacus tortor. <strong id="focusElement">I should be horizontally scrolled.</strong>
    </div>
  </div>
  <a href="#" ng-click="scrollHorizontal()">Scroll horizontally</a>
</div>

You can convert this into a directive for reusability.
