After successfully developing my Vue.js application, I attempted to view it by running the command "npm run build" and opening the index.html file. However, I encountered an issue as

After running npm run build, the Dist folder was successfully created. However, when attempting to open index.html, an error is thrown:

Failed to load resource: net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

What could be causing this issue?

Answer №1

After some experimentation, I discovered that including

module.exports = {
    publicPath: './'
};

into the vue.config.js file also resolves the issue. This allows us to easily access the index.html from the dist folder.

To learn more about the functionality of publicPath, refer to the documentation here.

Answer №2

It is important to note that Vue JS files should not be opened directly in the browser using the file:// protocol. To ensure correct functionality, a server must be used. An easy solution for users of Google Chrome is to install the following extension: Web Server for Chrome
