Adjustment in orientation compared to the position of the head-mounted display

At the moment, I am utilizing a system where the camera in the world moves based on the change in position from the hmd. The problem arises when I turn to face the positive x-axis and move forward - only the x-axis changes, making it impossible to walk forward unless facing the positive z-axis. Ideally, walking forward should result in a change along the z-axis.

I gather my hmd information from VRPose.

Answer №1

It became clear to me that the axis convention I had established was not in sync with what the HMD was providing. After adjusting my convention to match that of the HMD, I managed to successfully implement a solution that had been eluding me previously. Essentially, I calculated the disparity between the current and recorded positions, and then utilized the inverse of the current quaternion to make it all work.
